An Australian makeup artist I know who lives in London (the lovely Christabel Draffin) raved about Lucas Papaw Ointment which made me desperate to try it – especially since it’s not available in the US. She kindly sent me one. Its main ingredient is Papaw (or Papaya as we know it) derived from the Carica Papaya tree. Apparently its antiseptic properties accelerate the healing and cleaning of wounds. It can be used as a topical application on burns, bruises, dry and cracked skin, sunburn, cuts, heat rash, mosquito bites…the list goes on. I have been using it on my lips, my occasional breakouts, and being the accident-prone girl I am, it really does heal my scrapes heal quickly! Lucas Papaw Ointment is made in Australia. Amy Smart: Love & Dancing Premiere

Recently, I did Amy Smart's makeup for the premiere of Love & Dancing. Here's her beauty breakdown:
For the face, I applied mark Face Xpert in Honey with a foundation brush. Then I dusted Matte-nificent in Natural Buff with a powder brush. To the apple of the cheeks, I brushed on mark Mosaic Blush in Chica with the angle contour blush brush. Then for the eyes, I applied mark I-Sheer in Glacee to the inner eyelid with a concealer brush. Also, I added mark I-Mark in Corset to the lashline, concentrating on the outer lashline, using the eyeliner brush. Next, I smudged Corset along the bottom lashline with the eyeliner brush. I rimmed the inner eyes with mark Eyemarker in Jet. I finished the eyes with two coats of mark Scandalash in Blacklash. To finish the look, I mixed mark Lip Exotic in Pop and Rush to the lips.

Ginnifer Goodwin: Vanity Fair Oscar Party
Ginnifer wore a short, purple strapless dress to the Vanity Fair Oscar party and she wanted her makeup to be fun and flirty. Mai used mark c-thru in Nude all over her skin and used mark concealer in fair wherever needed. She applied mark Matte-nificent Oil Absorbing Powder in Nude Ivory on the t-zone. For her eyes, Mai used I-mark shadow in Corset from lashline to crease and smudged it underneath as liner. She then used On the Edge Liquid Liner in Cleo along the top lash line and followed with two coats of Make it Big mascara in Raven. For the cheeks, she used Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint n Nude. She finished off her look with mark Glow Baby Glow lip gloss in Sizzle. Miley Cyrus: Oscars
For Miley's Oscar look, Mai kept it soft and pretty so it would complement her detailed Zuhair Murad dress. For the face, she used mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Natural and mark Matte-nificent Oil Absorbing Powder in Buff/Natural. For the eyes, she used I-mark in latte all over with Espresso lightly blended in the crease and smudged underneath as liner. She coated Miley's lashes with two coats of mark Make it Big mascara in Raven. She applied mark Good Glowing blushes in Golden Glo and Star Glo. Her lips were kept nude with mark Dew Drenched Moisturlicious in mist.Thursday, February 19, 2009

Beauty Obsession: Clarisonic
Mai recently started using the Clarisonic skincare brush to wash her face and I’m sort of green with envy. She loves how well it cleanses her skin and especially enjoys the mini-massage it gives her face while she’s doing it. The Clarisonic is a soft, gentle brush created by the same smarties who came up with the Sonicare toothbrush. The skincare brush moves back and forth at more than 300 times per second to help remove makeup, dirt and oil. If you’re skin is sensitive like mine, no worries because the Clarisonic makes specific brush heads for normal, delicate and sensitive skin types. I’m saving up because Mai says it’s worth every penny. And by the look of her gorgeous skin, she knows what she's talking about. www.sephora.com
On our Radar: Gossip Girl
I must admit Gossip Girl is sort of my guiltiest TV pleasure these days. Makeup department head Amy Tagliamonti gave me the lowdown on the products they love to use on set when I interviewed her for On Makeup magazine. In addition to the show’s amazing wardrobe, it’s refreshing to hear that a great new product can serve as makeup inspiration for GG makeup department as well. “We might get a new beautiful lip or eye color we have never used before, and using that product will help dictate which direction we go with the rest of the face,” reveals Amy. Some GG favorites include Make Up For Ever HD Foundations and Lip Pencils, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, Chanel shadows and Glossimers, Stila shadows and liners, Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer, YSL Touch Eclat, Dior eye shadow quads and Dior Show mascara, Givenchy lipstick and shadow, Lipstick Queen lipsticks, Chantecaille liquid liners, bases, and lip glosses, Rose Bud Lip Salve, La Mer Lip Balm and OPI and Essie nail polishes. As Gossip Girl would say, “You know you love it.” Most products available at www.sephora.com
